Our Venetian masks are imported from Italy and are made in the tradition of the Commedia dell'arte. They are papier mache finished with gesso, a white paint mixture consisting of chalk, gypsum and pigment (or any combination of these) mixed with a binder. Gesso is used in artwork as a preparation of paint or other decoration - so is an excellent base for your own mask decoration.
